Network Asset Discovery Analyst
Job description
We are seeking a seasoned BMC Discovery Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead enterprise-wide discovery initiatives. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and optimizing BMC Discovery solutions to ensure accurate visibility of IT assets and dependencies. In addition, the SME will coordinate with Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) teams and project stakeholders to deploy and integrate other software discovery agents, ensuring seamless visibility and compliance across diverse environments. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong collaboration skills to support IT operations, CMDB accuracy, and business transformation initiatives.
Roles and responsibilities:
Lead the design, deployment, and configuration of BMC Discovery across enterprise environments.
Ensure accurate discovery of servers, applications, databases, cloud services, and network devices.
Develop and maintain patterns, rules, and TPL scripts to enhance discovery capabilities.
Collaborate with ITSM, CMDB, and infrastructure teams to ensure data integrity and alignment with business processes.
Coordinate with M&A teams and project teams to deploy and integrate other software discovery agents during acquisitions, divestitures, and large-scale IT projects.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to discovery scans, credentials, and integrations.
Provide best practices, governance, and compliance guidance for Discovery and CMDB usage.
Conduct regular audits to validate discovered data and improve accuracy.
Document processes, configurations, and provide training to internal teams.
Skills:
Strong hands-on experience with BMC Discovery in enterprise-scale environments.
Expertise in CMDB design, data modeling, and integrations with ITSM tools (e.g., BMC Helix, ServiceNow).
Proficiency in Discovery patterns, TPL scripting, and credential management.
Solid understanding of IT infrastructure (servers, networks, databases, cloud platforms).
Experience deploying and integrating multiple software discovery agents in complex environments, especially during M&A activities.
Familiarity with automation, APIs, and integration frameworks.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, with proven experience in cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
5+ years of experience managing network asset Discovery tools.
Preferred BMC Certified Professional in Discovery or related modules.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and hybrid infrastructure.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Prior experience in M&A IT integration projects or large-scale CMDB implementation initiatives.
