Position: CDP Cooperative Development Specialist - Nigeria
Location: Oyo and Osun States, Nigeria
Company Overview: We are seeking a talented and dedicated professional for the role of CDP Cooperative Development Specialist in Nigeria. This position is part of a donor-funded initiative focused on enhancing the organizational and operational capacities of cattle farmer cooperatives. Our mission is to support local farmers in becoming profitable and sustainable through improved cooperative business management, governance, and dairy productivity.
Job Summary: The Cooperative Development Specialist will lead all project technical operations, including providing technical assistance to partner cooperatives in areas of cooperative business management, governance, enhanced dairy productivity, and improved milk quality assurance. The project will focus on dairy cooperatives in Oyo and Osun states, Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, manage, coordinate, and ensure achievement of performance targets for all cooperative development activities.
- Address individual capacity needs of partner cooperatives.
- Facilitate livestock systems development based on cooperative principles and values.
- Provide technical assistance in cooperative business management and governance.
- Enhance dairy productivity and improve milk quality assurance.
- Conduct organizational capacity assessments and design capacity support plans.
- Create business plans and coordinate training initiatives.
- Collaborate with agri-businesses and financial institutions.
- Increase participation by women and youth in cooperatives.
- Collect, manage, and analyze data related to cooperative development.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Nigerian citizenship or residency with work authorization required.
- Bachelor's degree in dairy science, agronomy, business administration, rural development, agricultural economics, cooperative development, or a similar field.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience with cooperatives, agricultural SMEs, or farmer-based organizations to strengthen their capacities.
- Technical knowledge and experience in cattle production (dairy and/or beef) required.
- Successful track record in administering organizational capacity assessments, designing capacity support plans, creating business plans, and coordinating training initiatives.
- Experience working with agri-businesses and financial institutions strongly preferred.
- Proven results in increasing participation by women and youth in cooperatives strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data collection, management, and analysis techniques preferred.
- Professional fluency in Microsoft® suite, English, and common local languages required.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead and motivate diverse groups required.
- Willingness and ability to work in the field at least 70% of the time.
