Consultant/Scientific Advisor – Patient Centered Solutions 

Overview  

IQVIA provides scientific services spanning clinical trials, real world evidence, and consulting in all areas of the product lifecycle. The Patient Centered Solutions (PCS) team leads the industry in generating data to ensure that the patient voice is incorporated into the development and commercialization of medication and other drug/non-drug interventions. We focus on understanding and meeting the needs of our clients – mostly life science/pharmaceutical companies – through the application of broad consulting expertise and technical scientific knowledge to design scientifically rigorous research. This research is broad and includes qualitative (e.g. interviews, focus groups), quantitative (e.g. clinical outcome assessments (COAs)/patient-reported outcomes (PROS), preference research) and passive (e.g. digital health technology tools) approaches to understand patient, caregiver and healthcare professional experiences and expectations of disease and treatment.

Role & Responsibilities 

As a Consultant/Scientific Advisor within the PCS team at IQVIA you’ll be actively participating in the design, development, and delivery of consulting projects or components of larger, complex projects. Both consulting skills and understanding of life science methodologies are needed to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, which include: 

  • Leveraging business experience and acumen in identifying strategic alternatives and project approach to client questions 
  • Conducting primary and secondary PCS research, such as interviewing patients and clinical experts, reviewing published literature, and searching databases of trials and measures Performing quantitative or qualitative analysis to assist in the identification of client issues and the development of client deliverables  
  • Develop qualitative coding frameworks and codebooks and conduct qualitative coding 
  • Supporting the development of intellectual property for use on future engagements 
  • Creating sections of reports, presentations, workshops and other client deliverables, under general guidance from experienced team leaders 
  • Communicating findings and recommendations to project teams and to clients 
  • Assisting with business development and proposals 

Other responsibilities include: 

  • Developing broad knowledge of related consulting methodologies and pharmaceutical market through the delivery of consulting engagements and participation in formal and informal learning opportunities  
  • Further developing a diverse set of scientific research skills 
  • Leading some learning, development, and recruiting programs 

Whilst the PCS team undertakes a diverse set of research activities, there is a particular need for support in some methodological approaches. Candidates with experience in one or more of the  following areas are particularly desirable: 

  • Qualitative research – including developing discussion guides, conducting interviews/focus groups, coding and analyzing qualitative data using qualitative analysis software 
  • Preference research – including developing vignettes, conducting stated/revealed preference research and analyzing preference data 
  • Patient-Reported Outcome (PRO) research – including developing PRO questionnaires, and psychometrically assessing and interpreting PRO data 
  • Medical and technical writing – including writing abstracts and manuscripts for publication, and developing regulatory and payer/HTA submission documents 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

For this position, your primary role will be to support the Consulting and Scientific project lead(s) on client facing or internal projects. This will allow the opportunity to participate in all phases of PCS projects, from design to final presentation.  For this, we would like to know that you have some understanding and/or experience in: 

  • Designing, conducting, and analyzing qualitative and/or quantitative research studies 
  • Communicating study findings to pharmaceutical and biotech clients 
  • Disseminating study findings in publications 
  • Working in multi-disciplinary teams 

We also ask that you are able to demonstrate: 

  • Analytical, interpretative and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including grammatical/technical writing skills. 
  • Excellent attention and accuracy with details. 
  • An ability to confidently communicate with and effectively present information to internal team. 
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects 
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including presentations, meeting and workshop facilitation, business and report writing 
  • Strong capability in juggling priorities so that deadlines are met while retaining consistently high quality outcomes 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others in and across the organization to accomplish team goals  
  • Strong individual initiative 
  • Strong organizing skills

  • An ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and clients 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • A relevant advanced academic social science degree (e.g. public health, epidemiology, psychology, sociology, medical anthropology, health economics)  
  • At least two years of relevant experience in consulting/research within the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry  
  • Minimum of one year project management experience  
  • Fluent conversational and business English (written and oral); additional languages an advantage  
  • Right to work in the recruiting country 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Extensive use of telephone [and face-to-face] communication requiring accurate perception of speech 
  • Extensive use of keyboard requiring repetitive motion of fingers 
  • Regular sitting for extended periods of time 
  • Travel as required

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $113,600.00 - $189,400.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
